Myth 2: I have my business advertised on Golden Pages – I do not need a web site!

Reality: How much do you spend on getting yourself listed in Golden Pages? €700 for one category perhaps? For half of its cost you can run your own web site. Myth 5: I am a sole trader – and my business does not need a web site.

Reality: We hope so too. Researchers say every year 13 out of 50 (that’s 26 out of 100) houses in Ireland add a new PC to their possession, and by 2010 every household will have a PC as a necessity rather than luxury. If you are sure your business is excluded from all this discussion you are dead right – you will never need a web site! The recurring cost for having a web site is a. the domain name that costs you up to 10 euro per year (Irish extensions are however a bit more expensive) and b. hosting charge varying between 40 and 200 euro. In other words a recurring cost of possibly less than 13 cents a day, or 1 euro a week, or 4 euro a month. Now compare this to your other recurring cost for the business, like telephone bill, mobile call charges, car insurance, etc etc etc. And when it comes to withdrawing from it, yes, you can discontinue your web site any time you want.
